Rwandatel Officially Launches SEACOM

Rwanda's incumbent fixed line operator Rwandatel has officially launched its connection to the international fibre-optic cable system SEACOM.

'As a company, Rwandatel is firmly committed to advancing quality person-to-person and person-to-community network through this technology,' noted Rwandatel's CEO, Patrick Kariningufu, adding: 'This will increase the capacity of the connectivity between Rwanda and the world; you can now reach Kampala, Mombasa, the US and London in the shortest time possible.'

Kariningufu also said that the company will now be able to deliver high speed services to a growing number of corporate and individual clients without experiencing capacity problems.

Uganda Telecom (UTL) and Rwandatel agreed to purchase international broadband capacity from SEACOM. In turn, SEACOM has secured a backhaul solution for Rwanda on the two regional players' terrestrial networks between Ugandan capital Kampala and Kigali, the capital of Rwanda.
