Glo Cable Lands In Accra

Nigerian-based Globacom says it has landed a high speed fibre-optic cable at Osu Beach in Accra, Ghana. The new Glo 1 9,800km submarine cable runs from Lagos to Accra, linking the country to the rest of Africa, Europe and North America, and promising to deliver high speed, reliable and cheaper internet and telecommunication services in Ghana. Alcatel-Lucent of France was contracted for the rollout.

A spokesman for Glo Mobile Ghana said the new cable would increase fibre-optic capacity in the country from its current 120Gbps to 640Gbps (and ultimately 2.5Tbps).
